The Florida Frontier

A Message from the Editor-in-Chief

Bryan Griffin

I am proud, honored, and thrilled to bring to you, college students across the state of Florida, this latest issue of the Florida Frontier. For some, this may be the first Frontier you have seen on your campus. For others, you have come to rely on the Frontier to provide a rare outlet for the Conservative voice – a bastion of freedom loving columns and thought-pieces to counter a highly liberal college atmosphere. I write now, not only to introduce myself as Editor-in-Chief, but to assure each of you that the Florida Frontier will not falter nor sway in its dedication to bring such a breath of fresh air to the politically stale climate of most college campus. We will remain a firm landmark, a flagship among a sea of mindless Liberalism, and provide an alternative to the political debate against all odds and opposition. I solemnly commit to this as leader and defender of the Florida Frontier cause.

The Florida Frontier was founded by myself and a dozen others in 2006 on the University of Florida college campus. It was and remains the only Conservative newspaper on the campus, amidst a sea of Liberally inclined and expressidly socialist propaganda and publications. The Florida Frontier has recently expanded state-wide. Thirteen Florida college campuses have formed their own staff, and are working currently to produce their fledgling papers, and build them into strong fortresses of Conservative permanence. I applaud their efforts, and look forward to my part in their continuation and sustenance.

I hope that all politically adverse to the ideology perpetuated in the Florida Frontier are applauding its existence. For too long, and surely you must agree, the collegiate political debate has been heavily one sided, and weighted. To those who would scorn our existence in the name of Liberalism, I ask you what right do you have to assert indoctrination? What good does it do a society to foster a climate of thinking that is bound, limited, and enforced? I often see my fellow Conservatives assaulted for their beliefs by numerous on campus who would disagree. I've seen hateful letters and witnessed members of a different ideology actually collecting and disposing of Florida Frontiers from their stand. Not only do these people not wish for the other side of the political argument to be heard, they do not even wish it to be available to those who wish to hear it. There are those that seek to destroy the opposition, limit freedom of speech, and eradicated open and polite discourse. To those I ask, of what are you afraid? Why must this be so one sided, and how can you, in all hypocritical nature, purport social freedom but stand against open political discourse? There is a serious lack of people on the left willing to come to terms with the fact that they may be as indoctrinated as they wish their peers to be. I hope, for their sake and that of the country's, that they can take a second to grapple with the true meaning of the phrase “being open minded” that they use as a spear to pierce their Conservative counterparts.

To those behind the cause, I congratulate you, of being of mind and reason, and with the courage to stand up for that which you believe. If any are interested in joining the Frontier cause, please do not hesitate to contact your campus Florida Frontier staff. Or, with general questions as to becoming involved, please contact me, Editor-in-Chief Bryan Griffin, at thefloridafrontier@gmail.com. This is a do-or-die time for our country. Our congress, current administration, and bureaucracy have all majority opinions that the government can provide solutions to societies most pressing issues. We, as a now minority voice within our own political structure, must not let our cries for freedom and individual ability be drowned out by the calls for “reform”, “change”, and “oversight”. And you, the citizens of the country who believe in the power of the individual, in the fundaments of the Constitution, and in the preservation of personal liberties, must stand behind our cause to ensure the American way of life. This is no longer a battle out of the hands of the electorate, and no longer a time to let others be the voice of reason. You, the citizen, the college student, and the American, must take it upon yourself, as do I and all those behind the Florida Frontier banner, to defend that which we stand for.

Raise your voices, express your thoughts in writing, and organize. The battle will not be easily one, the road will hardly be clear for us. Yet, if we stand together, and move with all intentions of success, since failure is no longer an option, we can pull our country back to it's founding principles. We can prevent large government take-over's of car companies, healthcare, and the banking industry. We can stand against radical environmental extremism that will result in the losses of liberty. We can out cry those who believe regulation is a necessity of government action. We can stand to protect the human life and American values. We can, we will prevail.
