Requiem

Ben Stein

WEDNESDAY NIGHT LATE

To being at what may be the end, I am lying in bed. My lungs are on fire. I am sweating even with the air conditioning on. My head is spinning. I feel sharp shooting pains in my skin. I am sick, sick, sick. Is it pneumonia? Is it asthma? Is it flu? Is it all of them? I feel as if it's all of them... Read more.

Rising China

Jessica Chasmar

It's hard for Americans today to turn on a television or open a newspaper without hearing of the War on Terror, political unrest in Africa or the 2008 elections. But the American public has vaguely acknowledged the United States' threat of a new Cold War with the biggest challenger for U.S. hegemony: China... Read more.

Righting the Course

The Cure for the Common Recession

Nipping at the heels of the subprime mortgage melt-down is news of a possible economic recession, both in the United States and abroad. In true election year fever, politicians from both parties have taken this as their opportunity for governmental intervention into the economy. Some suggest a tax-rebate that will “stimulate” the economy, while others have seized the opportunity to increase entitlements. Finally, in a benevolent non-partisan act, taxpayers earning between $3,000 and $150,000 will receive a tax rebate worth $600 to $1,200, depending on their income.: Serious policy discussions must take place before true economic stability can come to fruition... "That's Too Much"

Jaclyn Janero

I was attempting to reiterate some of the topics mentioned at Gonzales's speech for a brief email to a conservative friend, so I researched his speech online. To my dismay, all of the media coverage was oriented towards the two protestors that went on the stage in hoods, and were promptly arrested. There were, at the most, two quotes from Gonzales himself, and the articles mentioned that he was jeered at after making them. This made me seriosuly reflect at the display I saw the night prior put on by such organizations as MoveOn.org and Code Pink... Read more.

Ideals, Unreals, and Accomplishments

Bryan Griffin

I was asked to represent the UF College Republicans at a debate, recently, sponsored by the university student organization “Chomp the Vote”, aimed at educating students about political current events, and inspiring them to vote. I attended, and while arguing for the right, got a good chance to listen to what the students from other parties believed. Aside from the random 45 year old representative from the Libertarian party at a student debate, all who were selected to represent their parties seemed very politically informed and fluent... Can McCain Draw the Far Right?

Ryan Pahota

Stimulated by a recent discussion with my roommate (a hardcore Libertarian) and the refusal of the Far Right and Conservative Talk Radio such as Rush Limbaugh to support McCain, I as well as many other members of the GOP nation wonder if McCain can appeal to the Far Right. This refusal to acknowledge that “Mac is back” stems from McCain's diversions from the party orthodox, such as the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002 (better known as “McCain-Feingold”). BCRA sought to “get the money out of elections” by placing caps on donations to campaigns and restricting use of certain types of political advertisements, provisions that many conservatives consider unlawful limits on free speech. Other topics such as immigration reform and the Bush tax cuts make McCain an unpopular maverick in the eyes of the GOP rank and file... Read more.

The Right Way to Go Green

Matt Mitchell

After reading assessments of “climate change” theory ranging from skeptical to outright hostile in almost every edition of the Frontier, this confession will likely confuse a lot of people. But if my fellow staff members don't share these positions, at least I have to come clean about my views on environmental issues. Not only do I believe that climate change exists, but I believe that the federal government has a moral obligation to fight pollution on behalf of its citizens because of its Constitutional mandate to protect our right to property. And on top of that, we are compelled to seek alternatives not only to foreign petroleum as sources of energy consumption, but that we must begin to look past internal combustion as a primary form of energy production... Jessica Lunsford

Frank Colosi

If you came across a picture of Jessica Lunsford, would you recognize her? It was a mere 3 years ago. In 2005, 9-year-old Jessica, was kidnapped, raped and murdered. John Couey was sentenced to death later that year for the atrocious acts that he committed.

Jessica's father, Mark Lunsford, has now been campaigning around the country to pass Jessica's Law: a law mandating all sexual offenders whose victim is a minor be sentenced to a minimum 25 years in prison. The law also requires twice-yearly registration with the database and electronic monitoring if they get released. Failure to comply with the monitoring of addresses is a felonious act. Legislators in Florida, as well as 31 other states, have passed the bill... Read more.

The P.C. of Murder

Johnathan Lott

Don't get me wrong; I'm hardly a fan of the PC movement. In fact, I detest it. The notion that it is wrong to be offensive in any way to anything and anyone has carried what was once a good idea way too far in the wrong direction. But that's an article for another day... Read more.

Micheal Moore's Dream Date

Moore wanted to bring Fidel Castro to the Oscars on the 24th of February. He said he thought it would be a real “ratings grabber” to have him in an opening dance-bit. The Frontier wonders, how badly does this man need a date?
