UF Professors Who Back Bill Ayers Should Be Ashamed
Bryan Griffin
In an article in the Alligator, four UF professors and associate professors were mentioned as signing a statement backing Bill Ayers and opposing his "demonization". These four members of UF faculty should be ashamed of themselves, as well as the rest of the people nationwide who signed this disgusting document... Read more.
Why Tax Cuts Work
Senator Mike Haridopolis
The idea of change has been a central theme of the 2008 election with both major presidential candidates fighting to appeal to voters’ desire for a new direction. After traveling the state over the past few months talking to Floridians, I do not believe that when people say that they want change, they are asking for more government in their lives. More government offers only higher taxes and less ability for families to make decisions for themselves based on their needs. What our nation needs in tough economic times is a leader who understands the value of tax cuts and new economic opportunities for all Americans, so that our economy can strengthen in the long term... Supporting Necessary Energy Policies in Fla.
Congressman Cliff Stearns
The cost of a gallon of gasoline is up more than one dollar from a year ago. At the current price, the average American family is paying $400 more for gas than it did in 2007. This means people are driving less and have less disposable income. This means fewer tourists visiting Florida.
Seventy-two percent of the cost of gasoline is the price of crude oil. What are the top three oil-producing nations? Saudi Arabia is first with Russia second. The third is the United States of America. Yes, America in 2006 produced more oil than the United Arab Emirates, Venezuela, and Kuwait combined... Read more.
The Future of U.S.-Russian Relations
Ryan Collipi
The Russian-Georgian war is a blip on the foreign policy to most Americans, but will pose a lasting challenge to US-Russian relations. As such, the means with which each presidential candidate proposes to handle the situation will shape our foreign policy and our relationship with the nation of Russia for years to come... Read more.
Palin: The Right’s Energizer Bunny
David Yakobovitch
Tina Fey sure knows the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull: lipstick. Since her premier as the Republican Vice presidential candidate on August 29, 2008, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin has gained much media coverage and publicity as the woman who will end partisanship and who will put "country first" in Washington... Why McCain/Palin Means Middle Class
Ryan Pahota
With the recent articles presented in newspapers on how the Republican Party does not represent the middle class, I would like to counter that argument in a form not regulated by a maximum number of words as is the case in some newspapers... Read more.
The Alachua County Commission
"Where the Wild Things Are"
Nick Fitzpatrick
In a simple survey, ten random University of Florida students were asked three questions: "who is the UF Student Body President," "who are the presidential candidates from the two major political parties," and "can you name three of the five Alachua County Commissioners?" Six of the ten knew that Kevin Reilly is the Student Body president. All ten students knew that John McCain and Barack Obama are presidential candidates, but there was only one student that could name a single county commissioner. A lone girl knew that Mike Byerly was running for re-election; she saw his sign, but knew nothing of his politics... Read more.
When Times Get Hard, the Left Seeks Souls
John Daly
Many conservatives don’t understand the threat of liberalism in our society today. By going on with their daily life and constantly pursuing their dreams, they feel that liberalism will never infiltrate their lives. However, when the time is right, liberals will attack and desperately try to make you one of their disciples... Read more.
Seemingly Unusual Supporters
Jeff Ivey
It doesn’t take a political junkie to realize the obvious about this presidential race- that Barack Obama is attracting large numbers of young voters to rally for his campaign. No one needs to look further than the UF campus- the cries of "Are you registered to vote in Alachua County?" all around campus are deafening and pain your ears like someone scratching a chalkboard. However, young people are not monolithic in their political beliefs and there are young people who support John McCain- and these unlikely supporters are also Republicans. Read more.
Obama Supporters: Do As I Vote... Not As I Do
Bryan Griffin
It’s scary. I feel as though Barack Obama could commit cold blooded murder and the left and the media would let him get away with it. What’s more, voters would make an excuse in their mind for him – and continue to cast their ballot for him on November 4th. The recent connections to former Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers seems to have had no effect on people whatsoever. Does it matter Barack knew and associated with this man? Does it matter he bought a house within a couple blocks of Ayers to keep close contact in 2005? Does it matter that Ayers is a member of the splinter S.D.S. (students for a democratic society) group that bombed ROTC centers in the sixties as a type of violent outcry against military recruitment centers? Read more.
Leadership Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Socialism
Johnathan Lott
I recently attended a national leadership conference, which I shall leave unnamed for the purposes of this article and generically refer to as "Leadership Camp." I went expecting to learn how to be a better a leader at my campus (as was stated in the pamphlet). Granted, they taught this, but the means with which they taught it were iffy at best. Specifically, I learned that good leadership and the free market are inherently conflicting... Read more.
The Sanctity of Life
Jean Morrow
In the upcoming Presidential election many issues will be considered by voters when they cast their ballots on November 4th. However, there is one issue in particular that must not be forgotten about even during this time of economic mayhem, and that matter being the sanctity of human life. This discussion will point out that our next President of the United States MUST be Pro-Life and that Pro-abortion Barack Obama is truly not our "Savior."... Read more.
