When Times Get Hard, the Left Seeks Souls
John Daly
Many conservatives don’t understand the threat of liberalism in our society today. By going on with their daily life and constantly pursuing their dreams, they feel that liberalism will never infiltrate their lives. However, when the time is right, liberals will attack and desperately try to make you one of their disciples.
While I was walking through campus the other day, I couldn’t help but notice on the left hand side the numerous students wearing "flower power" clothes while sitting around trees on campus listening to one of their fellow classmates (if he is really enrolled in school) play the guitar.
Just a little further to the left of them, 5 guys without shirts are tight rope walking on a line they strung around 4 trees.
If you look slightly further to the left, there are five girls, all decked out with tattoos and messy hair, handing out buttons to support abortion.
Finally, if you look all the way to the left, you see some nicely dressed kids with perfect hair rallying and furiously campaigning for "Change" at the Obama table.
The scary part of my observation is at the very end. As people become increasingly detached from reality and desperately seek the comfort they long for, they turn to the liberal elite. At the most vulnerable and impressionable times in people’s lives, liberals go out and seek the souls of citizens to create a class of people dependent on the government. By doing this, liberals would consolidate their power in all three branches of government.
As the country goes through hard times, it is not the time to move away from our free market society and assume that government is the answer. Don’t let the nicely dressed guys with the perfect hair finally suck you all the way to the left. Obama is that guy at the far left who will comfort you. However, when you feel better and are ready to leave, government will already be too big to break away from its’ grasp.
Obama has supported universal healthcare, tax relief for the middle class (despite the lower 50% of income earners pay less that 4% of the income tax), and the lowering of ocean levels. These are all actions that would constitute real "Change" in America; but do we want change that could never be changed again?
When American citizens become dependent on government for their healthcare, will we ever be able to take back control of our healthcare? The answer is NO. When Obama claims that every American citizen will have the same healthcare as politicians, I only sit back and laugh about how ridiculous that really is. If he becomes president and gets the same illness as me, will I be in the bed next to him?
Everywhere in the world, except in the eyes of Michael Moore, universal healthcare has failed. In most of these places patients deal with long waits in X-ray lines stretching as far as months, the constant fear of getting surgeries cancelled (because government decided to cancel their contract with a certain healthcare provider), and the sub-standard care of government appointed doctors. Let me tell you a story.
This summer was very eventful. My father was ill and had to battle colon cancer for a period of 12 weeks. Over that 12 week span, complications from surgery landed my family in the emergency room week after week.
One time while I was there, the line was substantially long with numerous people who didn’t speak English and were uninsured. As my dad sat their shivering and sweating profusely in the waiting room, the line slowly diminished and my dad was finally acknowledged. While being wheeled into a curtained-made room, my father asked the nurse, "what did all those people need before me, they all looked fine?" The nurse looked at him and said, "Free Tylenol pills."
If universal health care means that Tylenol pills cause 4 hour waits, what does it mean for open heart surgery? Or on a lesser level, what does it mean for an x-ray on a broken finger?
As of right now, there are approximately 47 million Americans who do not have healthcare. Do we really want to overhaul the greatest source of healthcare in the world for less than 1/7 of our society? The answer is No, but there are things we can do to ensure healthcare for all.
By using our free market society and American ingenuity, our government can make healthcare affordable for all. By demanding further tax cuts, expanding competition across state lines, safe importation of drugs worldwide, allowing states to have more flexibility to help lower costs, and using 21st century technology, the government will start walking in the right direction to fix this problem.
As a believer in "trickle-down economics," I believe that lowering taxes on the rich advance America’s ability to invest in business; which ultimately leads to a greater output of goods, business expansion, and an increase of jobs. If Obama is elected, he will raise taxes on the rich which will ultimately halt all the benefits of the rich investing their money.
Our economy is not suffering because of tax cuts on the rich, rather because of horrible home ownership policies of Clinton’s administration (but I’ll leave that for another day). Rather, tax breaks on the rich is the only possible way to eventually revive the economy. By hiding behind his motto of "tax relief on the middle class," Obama is making a fool out of most Americans.
Like mentioned before, the lower 50% of American citizens pay less than 4% of the total income tax received. By making the case to lower their taxes, Obama is basically standing on a platform of expanding government handouts to these citizens by essentially writing them checks for votes. This will further create a class of citizens who are dependent on the liberal elite.
I know lowering the sea levels is a great idea because Americans love how cute polar bears are and how we want them to survive. However, the Sea World website says that, "Polar bears are strong swimmers; they swim across bays or wide leads without hesitation. They can swim for several hours at a time over long distances. They’ve been tracked swimming continuously for 100 km (62 mi.)." With the threat of polar bears dying eliminated by their exceptional swimming skills, Obama can lower his staff and allow the world to continue its temperature cycle.
We are American citizens. We have made this country great through the hard work of our citizens and the personal sacrifices felt by families across the Nation. We have created a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It is not the time to shift away from that belief to make government a separate entity that totally runs our lives.
